The 5 important stages of relationships

Do you know what it takes to make a relationship work well? Many things, actually, but mostly: compromise, love, respect and openness. Truth be told, there are ups and downs even when both parties put these qualities into the relationship. But it is important to know that these difficulties only make us stronger and lead us to a state of deep love.

Emotional connection
This is the first stage of a relationship, one of the most important steps. Why is emotional connection essential? Communicating and showing our feelings openly helps build trust, which is the foundation of the whole relationship.

Doubt and questioning
There is a stage in a relationship when one or both partners start to question the other’s feelings, intentions or even their own and the whole relationship. You start to wonder if your partner is the right person for you.

It is important to know that this is not necessarily a bad thing. It is worth being self-aware and expressing your feelings. But don’t go overboard! Too much doubt can lead you to interpret everything as a red flag, which can poison the relationship.

A time of trials
Many people believe that unconditional love develops between couples overnight. But it doesn’t. The problems and hardships you go through together will take the relationship to a higher level, with unconditional love at the pinnacle.

The trials and tribulations will teach you the importance of loyalty, understanding, acceptance and patience – if you are open and aware.

Becoming a team
When couples are in the early stages of a relationship, they function as two separate entities. They care about each other, but the relationship lacks depth. Through trials and tribulations, however, they learn to become a “team”. This is the stage when the relationship becomes a cooperative one.
